Kamal Haasan's cadre to blow the whistle

Last Updated 04 June 2018, 15:03 IST

Blow the whistle to flag problems plaguing in the neighbourhood. That's the message newbie politician Kamal Haasan conveyed to members of Makkal Needhi Maiam on Monday when he launched "MaiamWhistle" mobile application.

Touted as the "biggest instrument" in the hands of his new party to bring about a massive change in Tamil Nadu polity, Kamal said any registered member of the MNM can download the application on their smartphones.

"This is not a magic wand for all problems that the society faces today. But it will be an important tool for the Makkal Needhi Maiam to understand the problems that the common man faces today," Kamal said at the launch.

The application which will be available for both Android and iOS users will allow a user to report about a problem in their locality with pictures.

"Once the complaint is raised and it reaches the system, the party will depute a 'champion' to check its authenticity and get back. Once it is confirmed that the issue does exist, MNM will work towards resolving the issue," Krishna Prasad, developer of the application, said.

The application, which was beta-tested for a couple of months, is a brainchild of Kamal who intends to use technology to reduce corruption and bring about a change in the political culture of the state.

"I agree that the application should have been launched a couple of months back, but since the intention was to root out evils in the society, we wanted to introduce a fool-proof system," he said.

The actor-politician also said any party cadre founding flagging non-existent issues for "publicity" would immediately lose his membership.
