Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar returned to the city from Shillong on Wednesday after five days of grilling by the CBI in relation to the chit fund scam.

According to CBI sources, Kumar was quizzed by a team of 12 CBI officials for nearly 30 hours in Shillong.

The Kolkata police commissioner reached Shillong last Saturday after he was instructed by the Supreme Court to cooperate and appear before the CBI.

Apart from Kumar, TMC MP Kunal Ghosh was also interrogated by the CBI regarding the chit fund scam.

Earlier this month, an unprecedented stand off took place between Kolkata Police and the CBI when the central agency tried to interrogate Kumar at his residence in relation to the chit fund scam.

CBI officials were virtually forced by Kolkata Police personnel to get into a vehicle and were briefly detained at a police station.

Soon after, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sat on a three day long dharna against the CBI’s action.

The CBI had earlier claimed that Kumar was refusing to hand over key evidences to them in relation to the scam which he obtained while heading the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government to probe the case.
