UP Violence Highlights: 5-member Congress delegation led by Rahul Gandhi to visit Lakhimpur Kheri tomorrow

The crowd of Congress workers and supporters was thin on Tuesday morning but started to swell after 10 am as more party activists from all over the state thronged Sitapur in protests against Priyanka Gandhi's detention. Other than Priyanka Gandhi, UP Police have also detained SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. Four of the eight dead in Sunday’s violence were farmers, allegedly knocked down by vehicles driven by BJP workers travelling to welcome Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya to an event in the area.

Priyanka speaks to kin of Lakhimpur violence victims over phone

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra spoke to the kin of farmers and the journalist killed in the Lakhimpur violence over the phone from the Sitapur guest house, where she has been detained, a party leader said on Tuesday.

Democracy under threat in country: Rajasthan CM on Lakhimpur violence

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot hit out at BJP governments at the Centre and in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday over the killing of farmers in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri, saying democracy was under “threat” in the country.

His remarks came after multiple opposition leaders were stopped from visiting Lakhimpur Kheri.
