MLAs beaten up: Tejashwi Yadav vows not to attend House till Nitish Kumar apologises

Tejashwi said that Nitish was behaving like an autocrat and hell-bent on muzzling the voice of those who oppose him

The Opposition in Bihar, comprising the RJD, Congress and the Left, on Wednesday decided that it won’t attend the remaining tenure of the Assembly till Chief Minister Nitish Kumar apologised for the Tuesday evening incident where Opposition legislators were allegedly abused and beaten up inside the House.

Some of the legislators, including the RJD and the Congress, sustained injuries when cops were summoned in the Assembly to evict the MLAs on Tuesday evening who were protesting against the Bihar Special Armed Police Act 2021 which gives the police the power to search and apprehend anyone even without a warrant.

“My name is Tejashwi. CM Nitish and his puppet officers must know that no govt is permanent. MLAs were abused and beaten inside the Assembly. They have set an unparliamentary trend. If CM does not apologise for the incident, we may boycott the Assembly for the remaining tenure,” tweeted Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.

Terming the proposed law as "draconian" which gave the police unbridled power, Tejashwi said that Nitish was behaving like an autocrat and hell-bent on muzzling the voice of those who oppose him. “He will get the taste of his own medicine when the same police will someday enter the residence of Nitish Kumar and rough him up,” Tejashwi added.

Calling Nitish as an agent of the saffron camp, Tejashwi said “I have already given him some names - Paltu Chacha (U-turn Uncle) and ‘Kursi’ Kumar (Chair Kumar). Today when the entire country is laughing at Bihar CM for getting the Opposition MLAs beaten up in the Assembly, I think he should now be called ‘Nirlaj’ Kumar (Shameless Kumar) for allowing female cops to heckle and beat woman MLAs in the House.”

Nitish, on the other hand, questioned the kind of language used by Tejashwi and stressed the need for a proper orientation course for newly- elected MLAs so that the House could be run in a smooth manner.
