The Union government has no plans to reduce the probation period of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from two years to one year, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said the length of the probation was counted as a part of the service and the period was counted from the date of joining the service.

"No Madam (Speaker). There is no proposal to reduce the period of probation from two years to one year," Rijiju said, while replying to a written question.

The Union minister said IPS probationers were imparted training in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVP NPA), Hyderabad.
