A teenager was killed and at least 30 others were injured in a mysterious grenade attack at the crowded general bus stand in the heart of Jammu city on Thursday. The person who threw the grenade, with suspected links to Hizbul Mujahideen has been arrested, the Police said.

Reports said the blast took place in a Punjab Roadways bus, which was stationed at the bus stand at around 11:45 am.

Inspector General Police (IGP), Jammu M K Sinha confirmed that 18 passengers were injured in the grenade blast. “They were shifted to hospital, where the condition of some of them is serious,” he said.

“Whenever there is a heightened state of alert, we step up checking. There is always a possibility of someone to slip through…appeal everyone to remain calm. Police is working on all leads,” Sinha said.

Visuals from the spot showed security personnel barricading the area as locals rushed in. “I thought it was a tyre burst. It was a big blast. The locals took the injured to the hospital in an ambulance," an eyewitness told news agency ANI.

The attack comes a week after the Indian Air Force carried out air strikes on the biggest terror camp of Jaish-e Mohammad in Pakistan's Balakot. Jaish had taken responsibility for the February 14 suicide bomb attack in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, in which 49 CRPF personnel were killed and dozens more injured.
