Nursing student gang-raped in UP hospital

A 17-year-old nursing student was reportedly gang-raped by two persons at a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district, about 450 kilometre from Lucknow.

On late Monday night, Jitendra, a ward boy who was posted at the district hospital, and Dilshad, a student of bachelor of pharmacy, reportedly committed the crime, police sources in Lucknow said.

Both the accused were arrested by the police, they said.

The victim, who was pursuing a course in nursing and midwifery at a local institution, had been admitted to the hospital with complaints of headache and high fever on Monday, police said.

The victim's elder sister accompanied her to the hospital.

Around midnight, when the victim's sister went out to have tea, Jitendra took the victim to an isolated room on the pretext of giving her steam, police said.

He then injected her with a sedative after which she was raped by him and Dilshad, they said.

After regaining consciousness, she raised an alarm but the accused had fled by then, sources said.

Immediately, a hunt was launched and the two were arrested from a city locality a few hours later.

Later, the relatives of the victim raised slogans against the hospital administration and demanded stern punishment to the offenders.
