Odisha flood victims to get Rs 1 lakh each

The death toll in the deluge stood at 32 by Friday evening and which was expected to go up as about 12 others were still missing, according to officials.

Compensation for fully as well as partially damaged houses, livestock, clothes and utensils have also been announced by the government. The administrations of the affected districts have been directed to pay the house damage compensation by October 5. To check misappropriation of relief fund, the district administrations have been asked to videograph the damaged houses and their owners.

Air-dropping of relief materials was halted following improvement in the flood situation. However, relief materials are being supplied by roads and boats. More than 1,200 boats are currently engaged for relief works.  The overflowing waters from the Mahanadi and other rivers have affected nearly 27 lakh people in 19 districts with many rendered homeless.
A central team is expected to visit the state within a week to make on the spot assessment, official sources said on Friday.
