Last Updated 21 September 2018, 11:47 IST

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to DMK working president M K Stalin and enquired about the health of his father and party chief M Karunanidhi.

A day after doctors treating Karunanidhi said his health has witnessed a "slight decline" following urinary tract infection, wishes poured in from various quarters for his speedy recovery.

Modi also offered any assistance if required during his conversation with Stalin and later with Kanimozhi.

"I pray for his quick recovery and good health," Modi tweeted. There was no fresh update from Kauvery Hospital, whose doctors are treating Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence, though a fresh team of doctors are examining him.

A steady stream of visitors continued to arrive at the Gopalapuram residence to inquired about the DMK chief's health. Hundreds of DMK cadre continue to throng the Gopalapuram area, where police presence has been strengthened.

Last night, in a rare gesture, AIADMK leaders O Panneerselvam, D Jayakumar and P Thangamani visited the Gopalapuram residence and met Stalin.

Karunanidhi has been confined to his home since October 2016 and comes out only for his brief hospital visit every six months.
