Last Updated 05 March 2019, 17:34 IST

Schools in Rajasthan are all set to have the story of Indian Air Force pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman in its textbooks.

The state education minister Govind Singh Dotasra confirmed this in a tweet saying: "Abhinandan’s story of bravery will be introduced in the school syllabus of Rajasthan in a bid to honour him".

The education department is yet to mention the classes and the subject where Wing Commander Abhinandan’s story will be studied.

Wing Commander Abhinandan shot down a Pakistani F-16 warplane, but was captured by the country and had to spend about 60 hours in Pakistani custody before returning home last week.

Earlier, the education minister had announced that schools will have a chapter on the CRPC personnel who attained martyrdom in the Pulwama terrorist attack on February 14.

"The tales of bravery of the martyrs need to be told. Their sacrifice should not go waste. If we can have a chapter on the surgical strike, why not one on martyrs?" Dotasara told DH.

The education department of Rajasthan recently also inaugurated a government defence academy named 'Maharao Shekhaji Shashastra Bal Prasikshan'. The academy will be set up with an budget of Rs 31.5 crore in Sikar.

'No chief guests'

The Rajasthan education minister, in an order, has directed school administrations to stop the practice of having school children welcome chief guests at schools or public events.

Stating that the time of school children is precious, Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasara has directed the department to ensure that no school student is asked to shower flowers at any gathering inside or outside the school.

He strictly directed the education department to stop the ongoing ritual of giving mementos and flower bouquets to guests in the school functions.

One month ago, on February 7, DH had raised the issue on Twitter, when school children at a farm loan waiver camp in Sirsi village were asked to wait for three hours to welcome the chief guest.

Hours after the tweet, Chattisgarh Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel announced to abandon the ritual of welcoming of chief guest by school students.
