Disclosing this at Visakhapatnam while launching the full load commercial operations of the 500MW stage two turbine of the third unit at Simhadri thermal plant of the NTPC, Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that the energy deficit in the country had come down to  3-5 percent during the current year as against the 18-19 percent of the past and power generation has also gone up by 7-8 per cent.

The minister also said that the government will not take any more land from the farmers. Land would be taken only if necessary and the government will also give them equal share in the benefits as well in jobs, lands etc.

“The land value should be more than that of market value when we pay compensation to the farmers,” the minister added.
