Sadhvi now targets Mahatma

Sadhvi Prachi, the firebrand saffron leader, triggered yet another controversy on Tuesday by questioning the “Father of the Nation” title to Mahatma Gandhi.

“The country did not attain freedom merely by spinning wheel...freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Ram Prasad Bismil and Veer Savarkar were the real heroes of freedom struggle,” Sadhvi said . She  was addressing a “Hindu Sammelan” at Aligarh, about 400 km from here, on Monday evening.

She made it clear at the meeting, organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), that the “ghar wapsi” (home coming) campaign launched by the outfit would continue until all those, who had been converted in the past, returned home. “The campaign will continue. The Hindus will have to increase their population to counter the threats to their existence,” she said.

The meeting was also attended by the local Bharatiya Janata Party MP Satish Gautam. Sadhvi also declared that the saffron outfits would soon launch a campaign for re-naming “Aligarh” as  “Harigarh,”  which, she claimed, was its “original name”.
