Telangana CM K Chandrasekar Rao tests positive for Covid-19

On April 14, the Chief Minister had addressed a massive election rally

Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has tested positive for Covid-19.

The announcement was made on Monday evening by chief secretary Somesh Kumar who himself had tested positive a few days ago.

“Chief Minister Rao has been tested Covid-19 positive. He has mild symptoms. He has been advised isolation and is staying at his farmhouse. A team of doctors is monitoring his health,” said Kumar in a press statement.

Rao's farm house is located at Erravalli, near his assembly constituency's centre Gajwel, about 65 Kms from Hyderabad.

Rao's son and Telangana's IT, industries, municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao confirmed the news on twitter. “Been receiving a lot of messages with concern for his well-being. He is a gritty man and a fighter. Am sure he will recover soon with all of your prayers,” Rama Rao said.

Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu wished KCR, as the Telangana CM is popularly known, a speedy recovery from Covid-19. “My prayers are with him. Get well soon,” the TDP chief tweeted.

Telangana has been reporting a steep spike in Covid-19 cases lately. On Sunday, the state health department recorded 4009 new cases, out of 83,089 samples tested. The state has 39,154 active cases and a cumulative positive case figure of over 3.55 lakh.
