UP startup to offer course to 'groom' daughters-in-law

The three-month course titled 'daughters pride' aims at inculcating social values among women.

A startup in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi town has launched a course to prepare an "ideal bahu" in order to improve social relationships.

"The three-month course titled 'daughters pride' aims at inculcating social values among women who are the backbone of every society," said Neeraj Srivastava, the chief executive officer of the startup.

"In modern times we have been witnessing a decline in the social values. Relationships have come under tremendous strain owing to a number of social and other changes. Women, who form the backbone of our society now have greater responsibility in tackling these social issues," Neeraj told DH.

He said that the course module intends to develop "self-confidence, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills and stress handling" among women.

"Since women, after their marriage, come face to face with new types of problems involving their relationship with their in-laws, the course also focuses on developing marriage skills in them," he added.

"Marriage skills will enable the women to handle the problems arising in their new homes after marriage. We all know about saas-bahu issues. These relations are very complex and many of the problems can be resolved through better communication skills," he said.

To increase the employability of the women, the course would also teach them computer and fashion skills.

"In this era of modernisation and declining social values, the utility of such a course could not be overstated. We hope to get a good response," said Neeraj.
