Tech snag slows down metro on Blue line

Last Updated 08 June 2012, 20:41 IST

Metro commuters were badly hit during the morning peak hour on Friday as technical snag in the electrification system affected movement of train.

The services were affected on the entire Dwarka-Noida-Vaishali line after the Over Head Electrification (OHE) system near the Janakpuri West station developed technical snag.

“The OHE system developed problems near Janakpuri West station at around 9:15 am. By 10:45 am when the problem was rectified, trains were running slow and the frequency was decreased,” said a metro spokesperson.

While the services were not disrupted, trains were bunched with each one coming after every 10 minutes, which otherwise run every 3-4 minutes. The commuters complained of inconvenience and overcrowding in trains and stations.

“I had to go to Jaffarpur, which is around 20 kms from the Dwarka station. I deboarded the metro at Shadipur as it took me around half an hour to reach Shadipur from Rajiv Chowk station,” said Ananya Tiwari, an NGO worker.

With the train schedule going haywire on the blue line, commuters complained of overcrowding in trains as well as stations, especially at Rajiv Chowk, which is an interchange station. “Since the trains on the Yellow line was running on schedule, the platforms catering to passengers on the blue line was overcrowded,” said Anirudh, a resident of Jor Bagh.
