TMC leader assaults woman prof

A woman professor was allegedly assaulted by a former Trinamool Congress MLA and local leaderArabul Islam in South 24 Parganas district on Wednesday.

The incident took place at Bhangar College in South 24 Parganas when Arabul Islam allegedly entered into professor Debajani Dey’s room and physically assaulted her.

“We had an election of   teachers association and Arabul wanted to push his candidates which we didn’t allow. Furious Arabul entered into the professors’ room and started abusing us verbally,” Dey alleged.

“When I protested, he threw a water-jug at me. I somehow saved my head but it hit the lower portion of my chin and I had a deep cut here,” Dey said.

When asked whether they have lodged any complaint with the police, the professor said: “Arabul is a very influential leader of the locality and we are scared to go to the police. We have lodged a formal complaint with the WBCUTA. They have even asked the government to arrange adequate security for the teachers and professors of the college.”
