Taking queue from the arrest of former Delhi law minister Jitendra Singh Tomar for providing false information on education qualification in his affidavit, the Opposition Congress in Tripura Assembly trained its guns on the ruling Left Front, demanding the disqualification of a CPM MLA for providing false information on education in his affidavit.

The Congress’ “exposé” of CPM MLA Keshab Debbarma, a tribal communist leader from the state, created ripples on Thursday in the political circles of the only Left-ruled state in the country.

Leader of Opposition in Tripura Assembly Sudip Roy Burman demanded dismissal of a ruling the MLA for furnishing untrue information regarding his educational qualification in affidavits.

In a press conference, the Congress released copies of the affidavits submitted by CPM MLA Keshab Debbarma from Golaghati tribal reserve seat in which it saw glaring discrepancies. The Congress focussed its attack on Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar since the MLA in question is known to be very close to the chief minister who is known for his honest image. The Congress has alleged that Debbarma  submitted two affidavits ahead of the state Assembly elections in 2008 and 2013.

The Congress has already sent a complaint to the Election Commission, attaching details of the false information with “proof”. The Opposition has urged the chief minister to file a case of forgery against his party MLA and has also moved the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly seeking disqualification of Debbarma.
