The crucial meeting of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to review “preparedness for elections” will take place today at the party headquarters, Telangana Bhavan. TRS MPs and MLAs will attend the meeting. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will leave for New Delhi after the meeting.

“The meeting will discuss issues including the rumours on early polls in the state and the proposed public meeting on September 2,” a senior party leader said. However, the chief minister’s visit to New Delhi and the meeting of state government advisor Rajiv Sharma with the Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa in New Delhi has nothing to do with the poll issue, he added.

“There is no question of TRS seeking an early election. The meeting on Friday is about reviewing our preparedness for the elections, whenever they are (elections),” MP Venugopalachary said. He exuded confidence that the TRS will win the elections. Regarding the state advisor's meeting with the EC official, he said that Rajiv Sharma and Ashok Lavasa are batch mates and there is no political significance to that meeting.

Chief Minister’s second trip to the national capital in 20 days is about seeking redressal for several pending issues with the centre.

KCR will be discussing the new zonal system, minority reservation and national status for the Kaleswaram project during his visit to New Delhi. He met state governor ESL Narasimhan on Thursday, and reportedly discussed the issue of unfulfilled assurances given in the bifurcation Act. KCR is expected to make a statement on elections at the public meeting at the Kongara Kalan on the outskirts of the city on 2 September.
