Facing a barrage of allegations, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government on Wednesday said that IPS officer Rashmi Shukla had tapped the phones of politicians, including ministers of the Uddhav Thackeray-government, without necessary approval.
Shukla, the then Commissioner of State Intelligence Department (SID), is now on deputation at the Centre and works as Additional Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
“She has unauthorisedly tapped the phone of politicians including ministers (of the MVA) government….this is breach of right to privacy,” state’s Housing Minister Dr Jitendra Awhad of the NCP said after the weekly Cabinet meeting.
“She took permission for some other name and tapped someone else’s phone…there was no legal permission... making a fool of the government, she took permission to tap ‘A’ and tapped the phone of ‘B’ ….it is quite scary...It was a well planned strategy so that her report could be used to malign MVA,” he said.
“There are reasons to give phone tapping permission by the state government. Who was fit in that category ..it should come in public domain for Maharashtra to know what exactly happened,” he added.
