In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took controversial police officer Sachin Vaze to Antilia for crime scene recreation past midnight.

On February 24-25 midnight, Vaze (49), an Assistant Police Inspector working with the Crime Intelligence Unit of Crime Branch-CID parked a Scorpio SUV laden with 20-odd gelatin sticks and a threatening letter, nearly 300 metres of Antilia, the Carmichael Road residence of Reliance Industries Ltd Chairman Mukesh Ambani.

Vaze was made to walk along the road.

Over the last few days, Vaze, who was arrested last Saturday, has been taken to various locations in Mumbai and the neighbouring Thane district.

Vaze and the slain SUV owner Mansukh Hiren, both are residents of Thane city and knew each other well.

The development comes a day after an NIA team comprising Inspector General of Police Anil Shukla and Superintendent of Police Vikram Khalate met newly-appointed Mumbai Police chief Hemant Nagrale.

During the meeting, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Milind Bharambe and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Akbar Pathan were present.

Besides the Scorpio, the NIA has seized four other cars/SUVs being used by Vaze — two Mercedes-Benz, a Toyata LandCruiser Prado and an Innova.

Vaze has been booked by the NIA in the Antilia case while the state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is investigating the suspected murder of Hiren.
