Pakistan violates ceasefire along LoC in Kashmir

Pakistani troops on Thursday fired at Indian forward posts and border hamlets along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of North Kashmir's Baramulla district.
 
Reports said two residential houses were damaged due to the Pakistani shelling at Tillawari and Thajal near LoC in Uri. However, No casualties have been reported in the incident so far. Indian troops were retaliating the aggression from across the LoC 'effectively and in equal measure', an army official said.
 
According to reports, people from several areas of Uri which include Thajal, Tillawari, Churanda are fleeing from their houses as authorities have asked the health department to be on alert.
 
"We have kept scores of vehicles ready to evacuate people from the affected area and have kept ambulances ready in case any  emergency arises" SDPO Uri, Javed Ahmad Shah said.
 
Pakistan army has been violating ceasefire along the LoC and international border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir frequently. Since third week of January, 21 persons, including 12 security personnel and nine civilians, have been killed in Pakistani ceasefire violations along the LoC and the IB in Jammu. However, compared to Jammu region, the intensity of firing along the LoC in Kashmir region has been lesser.
 
Recently, Northern Command chief Lt Gen Devraj Anbu had stated that over 300 militants were waiting across LoC to infiltrate into the Indian territory. Sources said the infiltration attempt could rise in the coming days as the weather has started  clearing in some of the areas.
 
"However, the army has devised its strategy accordingly and they are maintaining high alert along LoC and the IB to tackle the ceasefire violations and infiltration attempts," sources said.
