Railways hygiene drive to chug on till October 2

‘Swachhtha Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is Service) campaign was flagged off by Indian Railways on Saturday. The campaign will conclude on October 2.

In Palakkad Division, the campaign was inaugurated by Pratap Singh Shami, divisional railway manager, who administered the Swachhatha pledge to the gathered officers, staff and the students of Railway Higher Secondary School. After taking the swachhtha pledge, an awareness programme was organised in the division.

An awareness programme was organised in Mangaluru Junction.

On September 16, all the divisions will organise seminars on sanitation and upkeep of railway stations by involving NGOs, charitable institutions, scouts and guides, unions, passengers and employees to undertake cleanliness drive at their nearest railway stations. Painting and poster competitions on the theme of cleanliness will be organised in schools.

On September 17, seminars and workshops will be organised on sanitation and upkeep of railway colonies, rest houses, dormitories, running rooms, hospital and health units, colleges and schools. There will be a display of anti-littering notices, awareness posters and slogans.

Awareness will be made through a public announcement system and through posters encouraging greater use of paperless travel in all classes of travel. Feedback may be taken from travelling public regarding cleanliness awareness including messages on 139.

On September 18, all A1 and A category stations will be undertaken. A campaign for 'fill the dustbin', 'donate the dustbin' will be taken up to spread awareness among rail users.

On September 19, Swachh Stations (clean stations) will be taken up. All efforts will be made to ensure at least one platform at important stations to be "zero waste". On September 20 and 21, intensive inspection and cleaning of popular trains will be undertaken by teams of officers and staff to ensure cleanliness on-board.

On September 22, Seva Divas – Community Day – will be observed. An intensive drive will be undertaken to clean up and improve railway offices, hospitals, schools, coaching depots and lobbies.

On September 23, an intensive drive will be undertaken to clean up and improve railway offices. Swachh parisar will be held on September 24.

On September 25, cleaning of all canteens in railway stations will be taken up. In continuation to the station vending units, on September 26, an intensive cleaning of all pantry cars in trains will be taken up.

On September 27 and 28, inspection of all water installations including filter plants, sources of water supply, water taps for drinking water at stations as well as trains will be undertaken. On September 29, intensive cleaning of all toilet blocks at railway stations, coaching depots, trains and surrounding areas will be taken up.

Swachh Competition will be held on September 30.
