The South Canara District Central Co-Operative (SCDCC) Bank President M N Rajendra Kumar said that the SCDCC Bank was mulling over establishing a cooperative hospital in Mangaluru.

Speaking during the DH-PV phone-in programme organised at DH-PV Editorial Office in Balmatta on Friday, he said, “A committee had been constituted to work out the modalities for establishing the hospital. We have already held discussion with the conveners of cooperative hospitals in Hassan and Kasargod.”

“We aim to provide treatment to our members at a cheaper rate. The preparations are underway for the setting up of a cooperative hospital. We will appeal to the State government to give us free land for the purpose,” said Kumar.

Kumar said a state-of-the art digital library would be set up at its head office on K S Rao Road in the city. The library will also include a museum which will explore the growth of cooperatives in Dakshina Kannada district and how the SCDCC Bank has grown in the past 104 years.

DK Cooperative Union President Harish Acharya has been entrusted with the task of conceptualisation of the library.

To a query on common software for all the primary agriculture credit cooperative societies (PACS) in DK and Udupi districts, he said, “We have already developed a software and waiting for the permission to go a head with it.”

The common software will provide a direct contact with the PACS. Though the state government and Nabard have been promising to introduce common software for the last few years, it has not been implemented so far.

On SCDCC Bank’s proposal to introduce Tab banking, Kumar said, “The SCDCC Bank has written to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) seeking permission for the same. Once the permission is received, the Tab banking will be introduced wherein a bank account can be opened by sitting at home or office using the bank’s Tablet.”

The Confederation of ATM Industry (CATMi), the apex body of the domestic ATM industry is stating that several ATMs will have to be shut down, there is no point in setting up additional ATMs. Hence, the SCDCC Bank has decided not to go for additional ATMs. Further, he said the SCDCC Bank is not facing any shortage of flow of cash now.

Following the Central government's demonetisation, the deposit growth had come down to 3%. The deposit ratio growth was 28% to 30% prior to demonetisation. Later, it increased to 11 %. Now, the deposit growth is improving, he added.
