SDPI draws flak for using pics of candidates’ husbands

The SDPI has allegedly chosen not to use the photographs of women candidates in the publicity materials for the upcoming urban local body elections in Ullal. Instead, the party is using the photo of the husbands of female candidates.

The SDPI is fielding nine candidates for the election, of whom four are women from the women reservation wards. Ironically, they are using the photographs of the husbands of candidates.

Instead of Rukiya Iqbal, the photo of her husband Iqbal in Kotepura ward, instead of Shahnaz, the photo of her husband Akram Hassan in Ullal Kodi, in place of Khamarunnisa Nizam, the photo of Nizam in Melgangady and in place of Zareena Banu from Halekote, the photo of Rauf is used.

The publicity material is being widely criticised on social media.
