Google working on foldable Pixel phone

Last Updated 26 February 2021, 10:57 IST

While Samsung is ruling the foldable phone segment, Apple is said to have started working on a similar product with a plan to replace the iPad mini. Now, reports are coming in that Google has joined the race to bring its own niche mobile.

Jon Prosser renowned for its accurate predictions on Apple products has claimed that the search engine giant is working on a Pixel phone with a flexible display.
There is no word on the hardware of the device just yet, but if the Prosser's sources are to be believed, the foldable Pixel phone may arrive by the end of 2021 or early 2022.

That's pretty fast for a niche product, which just revealed through a leak and enter the market.

For instance, rumours of Apple's foldable phone have been making the rounds on social media platforms for more than four months, and as per the latest reports, it has no plans of bringing the commercial variant by at least one and half years.

The Cupertino-based company wants to ensure the foldable screen and another major component hinge, that holds two panels, are durable and can survive for at least three years of usage. It will be expensive for sure and people will be really peeved off if the new device becomes dysfunctional in a short span of time.

Hopefully, Google has done a fair bit of testing on its foldable Pixel phone already. Or else, it risks getting a negative response soon after the launch in the media.

Pixel phones are the most leaked in the industry. By the time, Google makes the official announcement, everybody in media and even consumers would have known all the key features of the device by a week if not early. We expect details of the special foldable Pixel phone continue to leak, as Pixel 5a, which due to replace the Pixel 4a by the end of May 2021, is already surfaced online.

Pixel 5a is said to look similar to the top-end Pixel 4a 5G version and also features the same camera hardware.
