BCCI to extend cricket coaching through digital platforms

Last Updated 14 August 2015, 11:00 IST

In a bid to reach out to a larger audience of budding cricketers looking for guidance, the BCCI is drawing up plans to provide basic and advanced modules of cricket coaching through digital platforms.

A cricket coaching mobile application and a customised website will be launched to provide content covering all the aspects of the game. It will be an extension of the programmes that are managed by the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

These applications will cover the basics of cricket coaching methodologies and modern day requirements to enhance the strength and conditioning of an upcoming cricketer.

Case studies to explain various scenarios and master-classes from some of the legends of the game will be made available in the first phase. Aspiring cricketers can access these modules to hone their skills.

In addition, coaches from across the country can standardise the teaching methodologies that form the curriculum of the NCA. The Board of Control for Cricket in India will explore options to work with potential partners who will build and promote this initiative.

The NCA committee of the BCCI at its meeting held on August 13 here approved the proposal and recognised the benefits that could be availed by the cricketing fraternity
BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya said, "The game of cricket is spreading at a rapid pace and there is an urgent necessity to ensure that the inherent knowledge available in the system is extended to each and every aspiring cricketer. This can be amplified by using the digital platforms as a vehicle of communication.

"I compliment the committee members of the NCA for having made a commendable decision to promote this concept and I am confident that Indian Cricket will benefit from this initiative."

BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur said, "It is my dream that each and every cricketer of India, especially in the remote areas of our country, must have access to information and knowledge that equips him to become a better cricketer. The decision of the committee reiterates our commitment to provide the desired support at the grass-root level and I thank the members for taking yet another step in the right direction.

"The opportunity to explore the digital space is unlimited and I am confident that this initiative will further evolve to cater to the changing needs of the next generation cricketer."
