KSCA Secretary's XI registered an emphatic innings and 79-run win over Railway Sports Promotion Board while KSCA XI slumped to an embarrassing four-wicket defeat against Chattisgarh State Cricket Sangh in the KSCA Dr (Capt) K Thimmappaiah memorial cricket tournament here on Thursday.

At RSI, Secretary's XI, overnight 453/9, folded up soon at 460 in 141.5 overs on the third day. Needing to make an improbable 356 runs to make the hosts bat again, RSPB could muster only 277 all out in 56.3 overs -- a substantially better total compared to their first innings effort of 104 but woefully inadequate in terms of requirement.

Karan Sharma dazzled with an unbeaten 127 but that only helped provide their total a semblance of respect. Naveen MG (4/72) and Kushaal Wadhwani (4/54) were the wreckers-in-chief as Secretary's XI bagged seven points for their big win. RSPB earned no point.

KSCA XI stunned

At IAF, Chattisgarh pulled off a major upset by beating KSCA XI by four wickets. In what had been a low-scoring game, KSCA, overnight 130/3, were bowled out for 202 in 69.1 overs in their second innings as no home batsman managed to score a fifty. Md Shahnawaz Hussain, who had taken five wickets in the first innings, claimed 3/48 while Vishal Kushwah added three more (3/55) to his match tally.

Needing 133 for an outright win, Chattisgarh survived some anxious moments before Rishabh Tiwari (50 n.o.) stood firm to see them home (136/6 in 41.3 overs.

Chattisgarh bagged six points while KSCA drew blank.
