Chikmagalur rally from Dec 19

Last Updated 13 December 2013, 17:12 IST

The fifth and final round of the Indian National Rally Championship will be run at the picturesque estates of Chikmagalur from December 19 to 21.

With the overall title already won by Amittrajit Ghosh, the focus is not on the overall standings. With the venue in the running to host one of the legs in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship next year, a lot of attention will be on the course.

The rally, which has reeled in a record 41 participants, will be scrutinised by FIA observers Nanthan and Murray Brown before the duo decide on if the venue can handle the rigours of the APRC.

As far as the rally route is concerned, the Motor Sports Clubs of Chikmagalur organised event will be run at the Coffee Day estates for the first time and will cover a total distance of 218.20 kilometres with the Special Stages covering 113.50 kms while the transport sections take up 171.20 kms.

“This is the first time we are going to race in the estates and the drivers are going to enjoy the sections,” said MSCC vice-president Farooq Ahmed here on Friday.

“There will  be plenty of spectator points all around the route, making this one of the most viewer friendly rallies.”
