Total Sports Asia (TSA) that helped Churchill Bothers strike the agreement said the deal was decidedly higher than the UB Group’s Rs 5 crore each for Mohun Bagan and East Bengal clubs. “All I can say is that the amount of investment coming in will be enough to manage the club,” TSA’s Tuhin Mishra said.

The sponsorship agreement between the Goa club and Kerala-based Kunnath Pharmaceuticals will run for three years starting this season.

Churchill Alemao, the owner of the club said running a football team that played at the top level had become a challenge, financially. “It’s not easy to run a team and see to it that it survives,” his brother Joaquim Alemao, president of the Goa Football Association emphasised.

The Alemao brothers started their family club in the 1970s “with barely Rs 100”, as Churchill recalled.
