Bengaluru: A grateful Karun Nair profusely thanked Vidarbha for giving him an opportunity to revive his career as he looks forward to playing for Karnataka from the next domestic season.
.
Nair's return to Karnataka was set in motion just over a month ago when the 33-year-old sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Vidarbha to facilitate comeback to his home state due to "personal reasons" after KSCA welcomed his decision to switch.
.
"Karun sent the NOC last evening (Monday), and he is eligible for selection for Karnataka from the upcoming season," confirmed KSCA president Raghuram Bhatt.
.
Nair played a stellar role in Vidarbha’s Ranjji Trophy-winning run in the 2024-25 season, amassing 863 runs, including a hundred in the final against Kerala, at an average of 53. The right-hander, in fact, was prolific across formats that made it hard for senior national selectors to ignore his credentials and made a dramatic Test comeback after eight years in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series.
.Gill backs Nair to come good soon .
Nair stacked up a whopping 779 runs with five centuries in a row while setting a new List A record of scoring 542 runs without getting dismissed.
.
Though his return in the first three Tests have been modest, he is most likely to be in the playing XI of the fourth at Old Trafford, according to skipper Shubman Gill.
.
"I’m coming back for personal reasons," Nair told DH on Tuesday from Manchester while thanking Vidarbha. "I would like to thank Vidarbha Cricket Association for everything they’ve done for me in the last two years. Whatever I’ve achieved in the last two years is credit to how they managed me and took care of me like I was their own. I’m very grateful to VCA and all the players and staff for the support. I wish them all the best," he remarked.
.
While his return will provide experience and solidity to middle order, it will be a challenge for Karnataka think-tank to accommodate him at a suitable position given a clutch of youngsters staking their claims last season.
