“Apart from education, MCC has continuously supported sports,” said Sister Albina, principal of the college, at a press conference here on Friday. “Over the years, we have churned out many national champions and I hope the inclusion of cue sports into the credit porgramme will produce a champion in years to come.”

After gaining autonomy, MCC decided to include credit courses for its graduate students in 2005. “Generally, arts students have very little exposure to science and vice-versa. So we thought of introducing credit courses wherein students can learn something new apart from their regular syllabus.”

Earlier this year, the Karnataka State Billiards Association set up a billiards table at the college as part of its plan to take the game to the grassroots level. Currently, 18 students have enrolled for the credit programme with two other students, handpicked by KSBA, honing their skills at the association itself.

“Billiards requires concentration, dedication and planning. I am confident the students will benefit largely from cue sports,” said S Balasubramaniam, secretary of BSFI.
