Following India's Intercontinental Cup triumph on Sunday, Virat Kohli took to Twitter and posted a message for the Indian team and captain Sunil Chhetri.
Kohli lauded his footballing counterpart's "stellar performance". He added that the Intercontinental Cup triumph will "provide a much-needed boost".
Chhetri scored a brace to take India to the cup and took his tournament total to eight goals. This is the highest number of goals that Chhetri has scored in a tournament.
Among active footballers in the world, Chhetri is now the joint second highest goalscorer, tied at 64 goals with Lionel Messi. While Chhetri reached the milestone in 102 games, Messi took 124 games to reach the same mark. Cristiano Ronaldo tops the list with 81 goals in 150 games.
Kohli has been vocal in his support for Indian football. Kohli on Saturday had seconded Chhetri's call for fans to watch football matches at stadiums.
