Owing to the tense situation in Mysuru, the organisers of the Karnataka Premier League have decided to shift the opening phase of the fifth edition to Hubbali.

Following wide-spread protests over the Supreme Court’s verdict ordering Karnataka to release Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu that has brought Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mandya to standstill, the KPL Governing Council met on Tuesday here and decided to the swap the phases between Mysuru and Hubbali.

The first phase will now kick off at the KSCA Stadium in Rajnagar, Hubbali, on Saturday (September 17),  a day later than previously scheduled. The Hubbali leg will end on September 26 and following a day’s rest, the second and final phase will be staged in Mysuru from September 28 to October 2.

As per the revised schedule, Namma Shivamogga are now slated to play the opener against home team Hubli Tigers in a morning match (9.30 am) on Saturday. Two more matches are planned for the opening day, with champions Bijapur Bulls playing the marquee match under lights against Belagavi Panthers (5.30 pm).

Mysuru Warriors take on Mangalore United in the 1.30 pm fixture.
