The elected representatives of the Belgaum City Corporation (BCC) here on Monday recorded their replies opposing the government’s decision to supersede the civic body.

Most of the members wanted action against those who committed mistakes instead of superseding the House.

They submitted their replies and statements before Urban Development Secretary Srinivas Acharya, Joint Secretaries C Basavaraju, S M Sonnad, Under Secretaries Maheshkumar and Manjunath. Additional Secretary Law Department K D Deshpande recorded the proceedings.

The whole exercise was undertaken as the continued process of the government’s show cause notice dated November 24, 2011 to the Corporation, as per the directions of the Karnataka High Court’s Dharwad Circuit Bench.

The Circuit Bench set aside the government’s decision to supersede the Belgaum City Corporation accepting the contention of the petitioners that they were not being given an opportunity to reply or record their statements for the show cause notice under
Article 243 (U) of the Constitution.

The officials would submit the report to the government, which in turn would submit it to the High Court, highly placed sources said.
