BSY defends canvassing by Reddy, says Shah okayed it

Defending the active participation of G Janardhana Reddy (who is accused in illegal mining) in the election campaign for the BJP, state party president B S Yeddyurappa said on Wednesday that it would help the party win additional seats in two or three districts.

Party president Amit Shah had also cleared it, Yeddyurappa said.

He was speaking at an interactive meet with mediapersons here. He said Reddy was neither a candidate nor a ticket aspirant. But his co-operation was vital for the party to win additional seats in some districts, including Ballari, the former chief minister said.

Sriramulu has been fielded by the party in Molakalmuru (Chitradurga district) and Badami (Bagalkot) due to his winnability. So, there is no confusion over the issue, he added.

He exuded confidence that he would take oath as the chief minister either on May 17 or 18, depending on the convenient date of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said he would take steps to waive crop loans taken by farmers from cooperative and nationalised banks and earmark Rs one lakh crore for the implementation of irrigation projects soon after taking charge.

Reacting to the charges that Lingayats were conspiring to defeat Eshwarappa in Shivamogga urban, he said this was far from the truth.

"Eshwarappa will win by 25000 votes. District BJP president S Rudre Gouda has been toiling for the party's victory in Shivamogga urban. Gouda will be made an MLC soon after the party comes to power as per the instruction by Shah," the former chief minister said.
