CBI books MRPL engineer

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked a case of disproportionate assets against a General Manager of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL).

According to the FIR of the investigating agency, the preliminary probe revealed that the official Niranjan Gupta has assets worth Rs 3 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income.

According to CBI, Gupta joined the MRPL as a civil engineer in 1995 at Mangaluru. He held several sensitive positions and has purchased assets in his wife's name. The CBI stated that Gupta's wife is a homemaker but has invested in shares.

The FIR stated that the government servant possesses three flats in Mangaluru worth Rs 1.36 crore, a land in Suratkal worth Rs 16.50 lakh, jewellery worth Rs 12.50 lakh, Rs 10 lakh bank balance and two cars worth Rs 27 lakh.
