One crore jobs in five years, free education till Class 12 and an Agri Corridor for the state, are among the highlights of the Congress election manifesto released by AICC chairperson Rahul Gandhi here on Friday.

The party promised to create 15 to 20 lakh jobs a year, to achieve the target of one crore jobs in five years, which is double the number of jobs it claims to have generated in the last five years. It also plans to raise the employment level of women to 50% in the government workforce.

It is for the first time that an AICC chairperson has released the party’s state manifesto, that too outside the state headquarters (Bengaluru).

Rahul said that unlike the BJP manifesto, which he said is prepared by three to four RSS functionaries in a closed room, the Congress manifesto consists of the voice of the people of Karnataka.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the Congress has done what it said five years ago and will continue to do what it says (in the manifesto). “I am proud that 99% of the 165 assurances have been implemented,” he said amid cheers.

The Congress claims it will increase the number of employable professionals in Tier 1, 2 and 3 cities by setting up finishing schools, bridge courses and other skill development workshops.

The agriculture corridor will focus on improving production, reduce production cost and wastage. It will include value addition, price stabilisation and organic farming.

Re-iterating the importance of 12 years of school, the manifesto states it will provide free education in government schools till Class 12.
