Which is more ‘Supreme’ - the judiciary or the legislature?

The Legislative Assembly on Wednesday witnessed a debate on the issue and concluded with Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar stating that the topic merited a separate discussion.

It all began with Jagadish Shettar (BJP) raising the issue during the discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address. P Rajeev (BJP) said that Governor Vajubhai Vala had given (former chief minister) B S Yeddyurappa 15 days’ time to prove his majority on the floor of the House. “The Supreme Court cut short the time, thereby unnecessarily interfering in the matters of the legislature,” he charged.
G C Madhuswamy (BJP) said the House should send a message that it will not tolerate inference by courts on its rights.

“The Speaker is the custodian of the House and not courts. If court interferes in everything, why do we need tahsildars, deputy commissioners? Let judges run the administration,” he said.
