Former prime minister HD Deve Gowda will be the chief guest at the Global Achievers Conclave scheduled to be held at the House of Commons of the British Parliament in London on Thursday.

The conclave is being organized by the NRI Welfare Society of India, and is part of a larger Global Indian Summit, an event that caters to Indian expats.

Deve Gowda, the JD(S) national president who was India’s 11th prime minister from June 1996 to April 1997, will preside over the conclave as its chief guest, a member of the NRI Welfare Society of India said.

The Global Indian Summit, which has become an annual affair, brings together people of Indian origin and honours them for their “outstanding services and contribution” in their respective fields. The day-long summit will also give away the Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Samman awards.

Gowda is to return on October 28 to take part in the final leg of election campaigning for the November 3 bypoll to Mandya, Shimoga (Lok Sabha) and Ramanagara (Assembly) seats, where the JD(S) is fielding candidates supported by its alliance partner Congress.
