Former legislator K P Bachegowda said corruption was widespread in the taluk and legislators were getting things done by putting pressure on officials.

Addressing a press meet in the city on Tuesday, Bachegowda said officials had failed to check illegal mining being carried out in the district. He accused that the contractors were carrying substandard quality works and looting money.

“Bagair Hukum committee was constituted. But the poor beneficiaries are yet to get the cultivation chits. Of late, the officials are also not investigating the murder cases properly.”

While expressing confidence that the JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy would come to power in the 2018 Assembly elections, Bachegowda claimed that the ‘JD(S) wave’ was very much prevalent in the state. “Kumaraswamy, during his tenure as the chief minister, formed Chikkaballapur as a district and provided all facilities for the development of the district.

JD(S) district president K V Nagaraj said the party was being organised at the booth and the hobli-levels with an eye on the upcoming Assembly polls. He said the party leadership would decide on the candidate from the district. “The party workers will abide by the decision and continue to work hard to bring the party to power.”

Nagaraj said Kumaraswamy had given reservation for all castes in his 20-month-long administration and delivered a pro-people governance. “The former chief minister has also done a lot to the Chikkaballapur district. But the Congress leaders are claiming them to be theirs.”

JD(S) party office-bearers were present at the press meet.
