Drive to clear roadside garbage in Kasargod today

A drive to clear all the garbage dumped beside the roads, including national highway, will be taken up in Kasargod district on Thursday.

The students, police batallion, NSS and Kutumbasri volunteers, labourers of MGNREGS, members of residents association and Nehru Yuva Kendra and members of various voluntary organisations will take part in the drive.

The drive will be taken up from 7 am to 9.30 am. All the collected waste will be dumped in government lands in Seethangoli, Cheemeni and Pilikod. Later, they will be segregated for scientific disposal.

Swacchata Mission of the district will distribute masks, gloves and plastic bags for all those who take part in the cleanliness drive. A total of 229-km long road in the district will be cleaned, which includes 77-km of National Highway, 33-km of state highway, and 91-km of zilla panchayat road.

Mounds of garbage is found on either side of the road in Manjeshwara panchayat limits.

A huge quatity of garbage is found dumped beside the road at Hosangady Pete, Bhagavathi Nagara, Bangra Manjeshwar Road, Angadi Padavu, Check Post, Kunjathooru, Toominadu and other areas.

Residents said that Manjeshwar Panchayat had identified land for solid waste management unit a few years ago. However, the work has not commenced so far, they added.
