IPPE to boost NREGA ranking of Mysuru

Last Updated 28 March 2015, 18:27 IST

To improve its ranking under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), the district has got yet another chance. Three taluks in the district have been selected under Intensive Participatory Planning Exercise (IPPE) for the year 2015-16.

Disclosing this, during the meeting of the district vigilance and in-charge committee held at the Zilla Panchayat auditorium, here, on Saturday, ZP Chief Executive Officer P A Gopal said: “Of 100 taluks in the State, three taluks in Mysuru-Hunsur, H D Kote and Nanjangud have been selected under IPPE. To make judicious use of the opportunity, the officials have been directed to take measures to prepare action plans under social forestry, agriculture, animal husbandry and other heads that will benefit farmers in large numbers”.

Taking cognisance of the initiative, Chamarajanagar MP R Dhruvanarayan directed the officials to make best use of the opportunity by improving the position of Mysuru district in NREGA from the current 19th rank.

Earlier, Dhruvanarayan and Mysuru and Kodagu MP Prathap Simha, who reviewed the performance of various departments in the implementation of various schemes and programmes, pulled up the officials for their laxity.

Social forestry
Dhruvanarayan was appalled to find that not much interest has been shown towards social forestry projects, with the gram panchayats spending little amount. He asked Gopal to derive maximum work from panchayat development officers (PDOs).

Simha was visibly embarrassed to know that specially-abled were not given due consideration under NREGA. According to the available statistics, the highest of 13 specially-abled persons were given 180 job days in Periyapatna taluk against the lowest three persons in Mysuru taluk for 40 days. The other taluks too lagged behind.

Notice to EO
Following the absence of executive officer of T Narsipur Taluk Panchayat at the meeting, Chamarajanagar MP R Dhruvanarayan directed the ZP CEO to serve a notice on him.

When an official attending the meeting tried to call the absentee official over phone, the MP warned him against doing so. Even after learning that the AEE was holding the additional charge of EO, the MP wanted the official concerned to be served a notice.
