He was speaking at a workshop organised for the elected representatives of grama and taluk panchayat to create awareness on Aadhar at Kalamandir here. More than 22 lakh people have registered for the UID in Mysore and Tumkur districts so far. In all, the progress has been moderate. About 30 lakh people have registered for the UID across the country.

The Mysore district is expected to emerge as the first district where all its population will have the Aadhar cards, Vidyashankar said.

He said the citizens could avail the benefits of various central and state schemes only through the Aadhar cards in the coming days. The work on issuing Aadhar has begun across 633 districts and Mysore may emerge the first district to go fully Aadhar.

Dr D S Ravindra, Chief Executive Officer of E-Governance explained the requirement to register for Aadhar and about the services extended in the villages to help people register for the card. The elected representatives should rope in more people and encourage them to register for the cards in their constituencies. It would help speed up the process, the officer said adding that till April 10 about 14.57 lakh people registered for the Aadhar cards in the district, which is only half the population. “We hope to cover another 50 per cent population by May-June,” he stated.

G Sathyavathi, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, Additional Deputy Commissioner Hazeera Nasim and others were present.
