Rains worry farmers in Chikmagalur

It was only drizzling for the past two days which all of a sudden took the shape of heavy down pour on Sunday. Farmers in Chikmagalur, Mudigere, Koppa and Sringeri taluks are worried of the future of their crops.

Farmers in Kalasa, Balur, Javali, Gonibeedu and Kasba hoblis were busy in processing their areca yield. Those who were praying for sun for drying their yield are now apprehensive looking at the unexpected downpour.

Harvesting of Arabica coffee had been started late due to lack of labourers. But now the rains have brought a new fear. On the other hand, Robusta plants have started flowering again, which has posed questions regarding the next year’s yield.
