Eshwarappa sees Gujarat-like victory in State

The landslide victory of the BJP in the Gujarat Assembly elections are a clear indication of the future of national politics and the party will register a similar win in the State as well, said Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa.

Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, he said the Gujarat  results had once again proved that people would teach a befitting lesson to those indulging in caste and anti-party politics. This (results) has strengthened the party further and shows that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi still enjoys people’s confidence.

“In Gujarat too, Keshubhai Patel indulged in anti-party activities and even formed a new party. But, he could not win the people’s trust. In Karnataka, Yeddyurappa, who has now formed the Karnataka Janata Party, will also be taught a befitting lesson,” he said.

Last year, the party — which lacked organisational strength — had fielded 224 candidates, using caste influence and money power. “This mistake cost us heavily in the four-and-half-years of our term. We will not do that again. Instead, able candidates will be given tickets this time,” he added.

Eshwarappa further said that 14 legislators who participated in the KJP convention in Haveri had clarified that “Yeddyurappa forced them to participate in the convention.” But they had clearly stated that they were still with the BJP and would not quit the party, he claimed.

The deputy chief minister said that the party was keeping a tab on leaders rumoured to be joining the KJP. The party will not tolerate such anti-party activities and will take appropriate action against them, he added.
