5 killed in car mishap

Five persons from one family were killed on the spot after the car in which they were travelling fell in Ghataprabha left bank canal near Shivapur village in Savadatti taluk late night on Monday.

Police said the family was returning to Kadabi village in Savadatti after attending a funeral of a relative. While they were crossing Shivapur, the driver lost control of the vehicle and the car fell in the roadside canal. The driver identified as Adiveppa Malagi swam to safety.

Police with the help of locals, state disaster team and fire services recovered bodies of Paravva Pujeri (45), Lagmanna Pujeri (38) and Laxmi Pujeri (35) and sent them to Government Hospital at Yargatti for postmortem. Two bodies Fakiravva Pujeri (29) and Hanumant Pujeri (60) were yet to be found. Murgod police have registered a case.
