Cracking the whip for laxity in responding to the needs of the affected, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa ordered the transfer on Sunday night. Dharwad ZP chief executive officer Shikha has replaced him. The CM also suspended three officials for dereliction of duty.

Earlier, taking serious note of failure in ensuring just distribution of the relief to the affected people, the CM during his visit to Holemannur village in Ron taluk, had directed the Superintendent of Police to take the DC into custody. However, he later calmed down and clarified that the disciplinary action will be initiated only after securing the details and conducting a review meeting.

Irked by inappropriate survey of the damaged properties and improper distribution of relief, the CM declared that separate staff will be deputed for the task of surveying the damaged houses. He was enraged as the tahsildar and the deputy commissioner did not give information on the quantum of compensation paid so far, on the spot. He tendered an apology to the public for the discrepancies in distribution of relief.

The CM went from house to house in Gadagoli village and discussed with public. He said the government is ready to purchase land at Rs 3 lakh per acre, for relocating the village. Steps will be taken for construction of the houses once the land owners convey their consent to the government, he said. He dined with the flood victims at the gruel centre in Hole Alur village.

The suspended

Sending a strong message that official apathy will not be tolerated in rehabilitation works, the CM has suspended of three officials who allegedly failed to carry a proper survey of houses collapsed in the flood havoc.

Junior Engineer, Mandasoppi of Zilla Parishat Engineering division, village accountants Idagal and Hiremath are the three suspended. The order was issued while the CM took stock of the relief works in Hole Aluru village limits, at a meeting.
