Gadag, U-K, Kodagu dists receive good spells of rain

Moderate to heavy showers continued to lash parts of coastal districts, Malnad and plains on Thursday.

Torrential rain lashed Nidagundi in Basavana Bagewadi taluk of Vijayapura district. The skies opened up at Wednesday night and the town near Almatti continued to receive showers till Thursday evening.

Several roads in the town have been inundated with rainwater. The showers have brought smiles on the faces of farmers in the region. The town had experienced rain for the last time in June first week.

While it rained heavily in Nidagundi, Almatti, which is five km away, received light showers in spells on Thursday. Meanwhile, Gadag town and parts of district, including Gajendragad, Nargund and Ron, experienced light showers on Thursday. The prevailing dank weather has turned parts of the town, including Vivekananda Nagar, P&T Quarters, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, into slush fields. Also, the UGD works and works on water lines have made matters worse.

Karwar and parts of Uttara Kannada district continued to receive heavy showers on Thursday. The district has received 153.6 mm of rain in the last 24 hours (ending at 8.30 am on Thursday). Bhatkal received a maximum of 36 mm followed by Ankola taluk 31 mm. Karwar recorded 28 mm while Kumta experienced 22.3 mm.oderate to heavy rain lashed various parts of Shivamogga district on Thursday.

Hosanagar, Shivamogga, Thirthahalli received good spell of rain towards the evening while Bhadravathi, Sagar experienced moderate rain. Most parts of the district witnessed cloudy weather towards evening signalling heavy rain at night.

Water level in Linganamakki dam rose to 1788.40 cusecs against maximum level of 1819 feet.

The inflow on Thursday was 7946 cusecs. Parts of Kodagu district including Madikeri, Napoklu and Bhagamandala witnessed heavy rain on Thursday evening. According to the reading obtained at 8.30 am, the district has received an average of 10.85 mm rain in 24 hours (between Wednesday and Thursday).

Madikeri Kasaba received 17.2 mm, followed by Sampaje 6.8 mm, Bhagamandala 23.8 mm, Virajpet Kasaba 23.4 mm, Hudikeri 13.5 mm, Srimangala 33.4 mm, Ponnampet 8.2 mm, Somwarpet Kasaba 18.8 mm and Shanivarasanthe 5.2 mm.
