Govt to decide on Sadashiva panel report soon

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday said the state government would soon take a decision on implementing the Justice A J Sadashiva Commission report on internal reservation for the Scheduled Castes.

Speaking after meeting a delegation comprising SC Edagai (left wing) association representatives, MPs and legislators, Kumaraswamy said a sub-committee of the Cabinet will study the recommendations of the panel. The Sadashiva Commission was constituted to ascertain the status of SCs. In its report submitted to the government in 2012, the panel had recommended that the present 15% reservation benefits be divided among the Left hand, Right hand, other SCs and ‘touchable’ groups in the ratio of six, five, one and three per cent respectively.

The panel was set up in September 2005 following complaints by the most backward groups within the SC category that only some sections had cornered all reservation benefits while they had been denied their fair share of Constitutional rights. Kumaraswamy said he would also hold consultation with Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara and senior leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and K H Muniyappa on the issue.
