The grounds of the Gudleppa Hallikeri College of the KLE Group of Institutions is gearing up to host the mammoth convention on Sunday, where former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa is set to formally launch the Karnataka Janata Party (KJP).

A pandal, spanning over five lakh square feet, including the six-foot tall main stage, spread over an area of 5,000 square feet.

Some 1.5 lakh chairs that have been ordered, 180 speakers, 28 sound systems, 25 giant LED screens and dining facilities at three places all go to show the huge crowd expectations of the organisers. A total of 120 workers are toiling day and night to put the pandal and all other facilities in place.

Infrastructure

Six generators are ready to provide electricity and more than 100 mercury bulbs will light up the venue. Arrangements have been made for dignitaries to be brought in an open jeep directly to the podium.

Final touches are being given to the main platform, the press gallery and the guests’ section. Cultural programmes have been organised in the evening.

Dining arrangements for the guests have been made at three separate locations near the venue of the rally — the Kolli Polytechnic College, the RTO office and the layout beside the venue.

Suresh Kulkarni, the person incharge for setting up the pandal, said it was for the first time in 20 years of his profession that such a huge pandal was being erected for a political programme.

He is confident that the set-up will be ready by Saturday afternoon.
